The first licensed casino in Jamaica is expected to begin operating in February 2027 at Princess Grand Jamaica, a resort in Green Island, Hanover. Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica shared the timeline on October 14 during World Travel Week 2026. Adamas Grand Casino Limited, which obtained the country’s first casino gaming operator licence earlier this year, will run the venue with management support from Grupo Orenes, a Spanish gaming and hospitality business.

Opening date and location

Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica said the venue will open at Princess Grand Jamaica in Green Island, Hanover, in February 2027, according to the Jamaica Gleaner. The exact day in February has not been released. The casino is part of the hotel group’s approximately US$400 million investment in Hanover, which also includes the adults-only Princess Senses The Mangrove. Architect Manuel Clavel designed the facility.

Games and amenities

The casino is expected to have slot machines and live table games, including craps, blackjack, roulette and poker. Away from the gaming floor, visitors will find a sports bar, a restaurant with live entertainment, and an exclusive nightclub, according to the announcement. The operator has not stated how many machines or tables will be installed, what the venue’s opening hours will be, or what capacities the dining and nightlife areas will have.

Operator and entry rules

Adamas Grand Casino Limited received its operator licence from the Casino Gaming Commission earlier this year. The company will operate under a management agreement with Grupo Orenes, a Spanish company that runs gaming and hospitality venues in Spain, Mexico and Andorra. The opening follows more than a decade of regulatory preparation since Jamaica passed the Casino Gaming Act in 2010. That law requires casinos to form part of approved integrated resort developments that include accommodation, entertainment and dining, rather than operating as stand-alone businesses. Under Jamaican rules, both residents and tourists can gamble at licensed casinos, unlike some destinations that restrict entry to foreign visitors.

Regulatory requirements

Although the operator already holds its licence, several requirements remain before patrons can be admitted. According to NY Carib News, these cover security and surveillance approvals, responsible gambling safeguards, money-laundering controls, player protections and connection to the regulator’s monitoring platform. The operator had previously been given until March 2027 to complete the outstanding items, so the February opening would come ahead of that deadline. Final permission will depend on completing those requirements.

Tourism and employment impact

The casino is expected to add regulated gaming to Jamaica’s tourism mix and create employment. The company expects regulated casino gaming to serve as an additional draw for international visitors. Princess Hotels and Resorts has reported that roughly 100 additional jobs have been created for the casino operation. The broader Hanover project is expected to boost tourism infrastructure and economic activity in the parish. Tourism revenue reached $2.5 billion and visitor arrivals totalled 2.34 million by August 31, 2026, according to Face2Face Africa.

Awards and company comment

Princess Hotels and Resorts Jamaica also won 11 international awards during the same week. Princess Grand Jamaica was recognized as the Caribbean’s leading resort, and Princess Senses The Mangrove received honors for adult-only, water villa and wedding categories. Marc Pelfort, regional director of sales and marketing for the group, said the awards reflect the dedication of the hotel teams.
